Boroughmuir are looking to include Max McFarland, an Edinburgh Rugby development signing who was part of an Ireland under-20 squad, when they return to the BT Scottish Premiership this season.
McFarland is expected to get another run when preparations continue against Dundee High at Meggetland on Saturday.
It is understood his journey across the Irish Sea has caused some consternation amongst fans who had been hoping to see him in Leinster colours this season and his acquisition could be a major coup for Edinburgh as well as Boroughmuir.
’Muir coach Bruce Aitchison said: “Max is exceptionally quick as shown on Youtube clips of the try he scored for the Clontarf club against the Barbarians last season.”
McFarland’s try helped his club to a 43-42 win in a match to mark the 1000th anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf.
Also enlisting at Meggetland is centre Adam Laititi, a New Zealander who was being tipped for a place in Taranaki’s provincial squad.
Laititi debuted in last weekend’s training match at Gala.
Competing for a place at centre again will be evergreen Malcolm Clapperton, the one-time Edinburgh three-quarter.
