BOROUGHMUIR will be hoping for their second success on the current spring seven-a-side rugby circuit when they host their annual tournament, sponsored by Central Taxis, at Meggetland tonight (6pm).
’Muir were quickly into their stride by winning at Haddington and although unable to field under-20 caps Alex Henderson, Damien Hoyland and Robbie Wilson, who have been called into a trial match today in preparation for a forthcoming World Cup, there is plenty of pace available.
Rob Cairns, Jordan Webster, Jordan Edmunds, Ross Bradford and Redha Guedroudj can provide a cutting edge outside playmaker Graham Blackhall and it could all be needed as ’Muir have been drawn in the same group as favourites Scottish Samurai.
A dedicated sevens “club”, Samurai are expected to field an all-Premiership line-up.
Tonight’s tournament forms part of the Arnold Clark Legacy grand prix and ’Muir have some catching up to do having been eliminated in the second round of the opening tournament at Stirling which was played on a knock-out basis.
The tournament final is scheduled for nine o’clock and the draw is: Pool A – Kirkcaldy, Lasswade, Hamilton. Pool B _ Boroughmuir, Samurai, Hamilton. Pool C – Stirling County, Edinburgh University, Howe of Fife. Pool D – Glasgow Hawks, GHA, Dalziel.
