Edinburgh Rugby rivals Cardiff are determined to avoid being caught out by the intimate atmosphere provided by Boroughmuir’s Meggetland when the teams clash in the RaboDirect PRO12 on Friday.
On their previous Meggetland outing while Murrayfield was undergoing pitch improvements, Edinburgh defeated Ospreys, and the message that a crowd close to the action can rouse the home side appears to have gone back to Wales.
Cardiff centre Cory Allen says: “It is a tight ground and the atmosphere will feel close, They have big threats and some big South African runners who are direct. It will be a tough and physical game.”
That is echoed by Cardiff attack coach Paul John who insists last week’s win over Ulster can’t be a flash in the pan. “We’ve restored some pride in the jersey. The boys showed what they are capable of by beating Ulster and now we need to maintain that standard of performance.”
• Edinburgh coach Alan Solomons is returning to his South African roots on June 7 to help coach a World XV in Cape Town preparing the Springboks for upcoming Tests, according to head coach, Nick Mallett.
• Cap trio Tom Brown, Jack Cuthbert and Dougie Fife have signed two-year contract extensions with Edinburgh.
