A COUPLE of charity rugby matches will take place at BT Murrayfield’s back pitches on Sunday to assist a teenage rugby player paralysed during a game earlier this season.

Connor Hughes was playing for Stirling County against Harris FP when he was badly injured in a tackle and is now quadriplegic. Since then, the rugby community has rallied round and an initial fundraising target of £60,000 has already been exceeded.

Andy McCulloch, from the Inverleith club who have organised a game against The Thebans all-inclusive team, says: “When we heard about the injury to Connor we just wanted to help as others have done. We are playing The Thebans at 1.30 and because they are coached by Jim Reilly, from Murrayfield Wanderers, he has arranged for their ex-colts team to take on a Murrayfield select in the second leg of a double header.

“There will be bucket collections and raffles and anybody willing to donate is asked to go to www.connorsjourney.com
