A number of young and fringe players performed admirably for Edinburgh Accies yesterday in their 38-17 defeat by the Co-Optimists at Raeburn Place.

The annual festive encounter was played in wet and windy conditions and in the end the experience of the invitational side’s players saw them through.

The likes of Toby Binnian, Rory and Cameron Simpson, Ryan Godsmark, Rory Watt and Murray Black performed well and the Accies coaching staff will have been pleased with what they saw.

Jack Denton, the brother of Scotland and Edinburgh Rugby back-row David, was also involved, coming off the bench in the second half.

In the first half it was twins Nyle and Ryan Godsmark who scored all Accies points to leave them 19-12 down at the break.

In the second half Accies managed to score another try through replacement scrum-half Black, but it was not enough.

The Co-Optimists side, brought together by Boroughmuir head coach Bruce Aitchison, ran in six tries.
