A STRONG Currie side won the Edinburgh Northern Sevens.

The event in Inverleith Park always draws a lot of local clubs and this year was no exception.

It became clear early on that the Currie side – under the guidance of former Scotland Sevens cap Mark Cairns – were the most accomplished sevens outfit on show.

In the end they defeated Lasswade in the final as the trophy headed to Malleny Park.

Meanwhile, in East Lothian it was a great day for local club North Berwick at their own sevens tournament.

The senior side won the tournament to keep the trophy at Recreation Park while the club’s youngsters showed that there is plenty talent coming through the ranks by winning the under-18 10s event too.

At the Hawick Sevens, Watsonians lost out to the home side 24-17 in the final.

The Myreside men progressed to the last four comfortably with wins over Hawick Harlequins and Edinburgh Accies before beating Jed-Forest 19-7 in the semi-finals.
