Giant South African second row Anton Bresler appears to be moving closer to finalising a deal with Edinburgh Rugby after ending a long injury absence.
The 6ft 7in and 17st 9lb Bresler has been out for months with shoulder damage which required surgery but has just made an appearance in club rugby and is being tipped for a return to the Sharks Super 15 side either against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein this weekend or Stormers the following week.
Sharks coach Jake White has confirmed Bresler is in the frame and that will be good news for Edinburgh who are believed to have all but secured him to lend experience to their pack.
• STEWART’S MELVILLE have added to their backroom team ahead of the National League Division One season.
Taking up a new post as“rugby co-ordinator” tasked with integrating school, mini, youth and senior rugby is former Melrose and Scotland under-21 back Bruce Ruthven, currently a development officer in Orkney.
“The Rugby Coordinator will facilitate the concept of SMC Rugby, one body where the aims and objectives are intrinsically intertwined for the benefit of the school, the club and all participants. The aim is to create an organisation which will continue to be at the forefront of Scottish Rugby with a clear development ethos and greater cohesion as its major strength,” says president Colin Rigby on the club website.
Before moving to Orkney Ruthven was director of rugby at English side Ledbury and is qualified to coach at UKCC 3 level with knowing of strength and conditioning. Stewart’s Melville College have won the schools cup twice in the past nine years but potential has sometimes been lost partly through losing players to universities around the country.
