With four imports, albeit two Scottish qualified, due to be covering prop-forward positions, Edinburgh Rugby have struck a deal that sees 22-year-old front rower Robin Hislop stay at Rotherham for another year.
Hislop, ex-Langholm and Boroughmuir, made four European Cup appearances, against Munster (2) and Saracens (2) before breaking a leg, but Edinburgh’s loss is the English Championship side’s gain, their coach insists today.
Lee Blackett says: “It’s great news that Robin has decided to stay. He came in and made a difference right from the start.
“We probably expected him to return to Edinburgh, but when the opportunity arose to keep him, it was a no-brainer. Robin wants to stay and put himself in the position of playing week in and week out and we feel lucky that he’s decided to stay.
“In addition to his contribution at scrum time, he also offers us plenty around the park and he suits the style of play. He’s very good around the field and I would imagine of all the loosehead’s in the league, he must be right up there with the best of them.”
Edinburgh also have Scottish prop forwards Alex Allan and Ewan McQuillin.
