Edinburgh Rugby were today drawn in a European Challenge Cup pool alongside two promoted teams – London Welsh and Lyon – as well as Bordeaux-Begles.
For the Welsh exiles, it will be a swift return to the Capital after facing Edinburgh Accies in a B&I Cup tie last season and since then they have gone on to defeat Bristol home and away to clinch a return to the Premiership with former Edinburgh and Scotland stand off Gordon Ross claiming man-of-the-match honours in the away leg.
Lyon’s stars include Argentinian Juan Manual Leguizamon and ex-France captain Lionel Nallet.
Bordeaux-Begles were once a leading force and competed in the first European Cup nearly 20 years ago before falling from grace amidst financial woes.
Now re-grouped, they will look to field France prop Jean-Baptiste Poux, All Black Bruce Reihana and Fijian Metuisela Talebuilamaijaina, who was the Top 14’s leading try scorer with 16 as his side finished eighth in the latest table.
In the Champions Cup, Glasgow Warriors will play Montpellier, Bath and three-times winners Toulouse.
