Five Capital-based rugby players will be leading the way this weekend as Scotland Women’s sevens team take part in the Rugby Europe Grand Prix event in the Republic of Tartastan, Russia.
Murrayfield Wanderers trio Eilidh Sinclair, Lisa Martin and Sarah Law are in the 12-strong squad that have travelled to Kazan as are RHC Cougars Karen Dunbar and Caitlin Harvey, who is dual registered between the Cougars and Caithness.
Scotland have returned to the top flight of European competition after promotion last June at the FIRA-AER tournament in Bergen.
To remain at the level they are at now, the Scots must ensure a top-10 finish out of 12 competing sides after this event and the Brive tournament in France next weekend. Head coach Scott Forrest said: “The majority of the teams competing are full-time and this will be a great opportunity for us to benchmark ourselves against the best in Europe.”
Meanwhile in men’s sevens, the GB7s circuit comes to a finish at Eirias Park in Wales tomorrow with the Co-Optimists still in with a chance of top spot.
With 21 points up for grabs for the winners in Colwyn Bay the Scots side are currently on 37, just two behind leaders Samurai.
