Edinburgh’s Anton Bresler to bare teeth with Sharks

New Edinburgh Rugby signing Anton Bresler has been named to resume his Super 15 career tomorrow after three months out with a shoulder injury.

The 6ft 7in second row is listed in the Natal Sharks team for a visit to play Cheetahs in Bloemfontain while another Edinburgh-bound player, Phil Burleigh, will cover the back line from a substitute role when Otago Highlanders head for the NSW Waratahs on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a string of Edinburgh-based players have been chosen for Scotland’s under-19 squad to play Tests in Romania on August 20 and 24 as part of a bridge into the national under-20 squad. They are: Forwards: Scott Burnside (Heriot’s), Callum Hunter-Hill (Stewart’s Melville College), Jake Kerr and Ally Miller (all Edinburgh Rugby/Watsonians). Backs: Hugh Fraser (Edinburgh Rugby/Heriot’s), Ruairi Howarth (Edinburgh Rugby/Gala), Josh Laird (Heriot’s), Andrew Manson (Stewart’s Melville), Robbie Nairn (George Watson’s College/Currie), Ben Robbins (Edinburgh Rugby/Watsonians), Ruaridh Smith (Currie).

• Currie’s pre-season starts against Stewart’s Melville at home on August 9 followed by a trip to Blaydon. Preparations conclude with an August 23 training day involving Musselburgh at Malleny Park.
