History could repeat itself with a young Edinburgh winger gaining his first Scotland rugby cap when England visit Murrayfield on Saturday.
Two years ago Lee Jones was propelled into the Test scene and now injury to Lion Sean Maitland may have paved the way for Dougie Fife to follow suit.
Fife has been in prolific try-scoring form and last weekend shared in the Scotland A team’s 16-16 draw with England Saxons a day before Maitland suffered concussion and an ankle knock during the Six Nations opener in Ireland.
Maitland’s woes meant a call up for Max Evans from the bench and it would appear to be between him and Fife when the team is named tomorrow.
Meanwhile, former captain Mike Blair is calling for full back Stuart Hogg to be moved closer to the action. “In broken phase play I’d like to see him (Hogg) at second receiver where he can use his footwork to stress the opposition front five,” says Blair.
n Heriot’s second row Murray Douglas will captain the Scottish clubs’ team when they tackle Ireland in Cork on Friday.
