Edinburgh University Ladies ended a dream season with an emphatic 48-5 victory in the BUCS Championship final at Twickenham today.
They defeated Northumbria University 48-5 at the home of English rugby to add to the BUCS Premier North league they won earlier in the campaign.
Edinburgh got off to a good start in the final and they nearly scored in the opening minutes, but centre Megan Gaffney was stopped just short of the try line.
In the ninth minute they did get the first points of the afternoon on the board when prop Katie Dougan, the Scotland cap, barged her way over.
The score was unconverted, but the Capital side kept on the attack and scored a second try through Gaffney. That made it 10-0 and it stayed that way until the break.
Edinburgh pressed home their advantage in the second half, scoring six more tries as well as four conversions from skipper Sarah Law.
The first was a cracking 40 metre run and finish from winger Rhona Lloyd and then she added another.
With 15 minutes to play Gaffney added her second and then stand-off Amy Walter went over. Lloyd completed her hat-trick with a 50 metre burst and then Gaffney got her third before a late consolation for Northumbria.
