EDINBURGH scrum half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne was today called up to the Scotland squad which began preparations for next month’s viagogo Autumn Tests.
The 21-year-old has been brought in as precautionary injury cover for Chris Cusiter of Sale, who has a calf strain, while a call has also gone out to five-times capped Peter Horne whose Glasgow colleague Alex Dunbar is recovering from an ankle problem sustained in the weekend win at Montpellier.
Scotland are on a three-day camp at the Newcastle base which will be used for next year’s World Cup and the inclusion of Spanish-born Hidalgo-Clyne comes just 13 months after he made the first of 15 Edinburgh appearances in a match against Munster.
More recently, he has started both Edinburgh’s European Challenge Cup victories over Bordeaux-Begles and Lyon, having represented Scotland at various age-groups.
He is also a past recipinent of the Macphail Scholarship which entitled him to spend a summer playing in New Zealand.
It was also reported today that Glasgow wingers Tommy Seymour and Sean Maitland were late arrivals to the squad having suffered head knocks at the weekend.
