Heriot’s supporters are to get a first look at a number of the new arrivals at the club when the BT Premiership champions take on Watsonians in a pre-season friendly tomorrow.
The Goldenacre side’s coaches Phil Smith and Steve Lawrie strengthened their squad for 2015-16 early in the summer and with a couple of months of training under their belts the recruits will be keen to hit the ground running.
They include Scotland under-20 prop Murray McCallum and Scotland Sevens cap Struan Dewar who has returned to the club after a number of years on the World Series circuit.
Michael Liness, the hooker who previously played for Edinburgh Accies, is also set to be involved along with South African second-row/back-row Roan Van Heerden and a handful of others.
Following on from last week’s mini tournament at Boroughmuir, Watsonians are set to have former Scotland A cap David Blair involved for the first time tomorrow.
The stand-off, 30, is the younger brother of Glasgow Warriors’ scrum-half Mike and returns to competitive rugby for the first time in a number of years since leaving Edinburgh Rugby.
The match kicks off at 3pm with Heriot’s second XV playing Orkney beforehand at 1pm.
Elsewhere tomorrow, Currie host Blaydon at Malleny Park, Highland visit Raeburn Place to take on Edinburgh Accies and Falkirk play in a mini tournament with West of Scotland and top-flight side Ayr.
