Robinson could walk says Beattie

Former Calcutta Cup hero John Beattie believes Andy Robinson will jump before he is pushed if results continue to go against Scotland’s head rugby coach.

While generally giving a vote of confidence to the man whose team have scored just 13 tries in 24 Tests Beattie said: “If the Scotland team has another bad Six Nations tournament he will walk. I just don’t see him as the kind of bloke to stick around and hang in for four more salaried years at Murrayfield.”

As to how the ship is turned around ex-back row Beattie, who starred in the record 1986 Murrayfield win over England, is calling in a BBC blog for a backline reshuffle which might include rookie Edinburgh centre Matt Scott.

“I’d stick the Lamonts on each wing despite a fine debut from Lee Jones ... Stuart Hogg is ready to be put in at full-back right now. From what I’ve seen Matt Scott is practically ready.”

Meanwhile, Wales could be without the cited Bradley Davies as well as injury victims Sam Warburton (thigh) and Dan Lydiate (ankle) on Sunday against Scotland in Cardiff.
