WARATAHS second row Ollie Atkins today looked set to become the latest signing due to be announced by Edinburgh Rugby later this week.
The way appeared to be clear for the 6ft 6in and 18st Atkins, who played against the Lions this summer, to fly from New South Wales to Scotland after it emerged today that the Waratahs had signed Springbok cap Jacques Potgieter in his position.
The Evening News, which yesterday disclosed the imminent signing of Waratahs scrum half Grayson Hart, can today reveal that new coach Alan Solomons will be bringing with him from South African side Southern Kings, his defence coach, Omar Mouneimne.
Mouneimne comes highly rated despite the fact that Kings have just been relegated following their first season in Super-15. In 2010 he helped the Cape Town based Stormers to the best defensive record in Super-15 with an average concession per game of only 13 points and that earned him an invite to assist then Italian national coach Nick Mallett at the 2011 World Cup.
However, it is the prospect of seeing Atkins in an Edinburgh jersey that will most excite.
The 25-year-old, who had a season at Edinburgh Accies early in his career, appears to be the type of hard working ball carrier Edinburgh have been crying out for. Edinburgh are expected to announce on Thursday that Hart will sign on a two-year deal from Waratahs.
