Scotland winger Tom Brown gets a rare chance to push for a regular club run after being recalled to Edinburgh Rugby’s team for tomorrow’s crucial Guinness PRO12 clash at Scarlets.
Victory would see Edinburgh leapfrog their Welsh rivals as they chase the all-important sixth place that would guarantee inclusion in the European Champions Cup and, in Brown, they have a proven try-scorer.
Restricted to just three outings this season partly due to injury, Brown has nevertheless scored two tries.
He takes the place of current Scotland wing, Dougie Fife, who is nursing a nose injury sustained against Ireland last week.
Another casualty of that Six Nations match, Matt Scott, rests a shoulder knock and is replaced by Phil Burleigh with the remainder of the side unchanged from that which gained as bonus point win (29-8) in Treviso a fortnight ago.
Stuart McInally retains the hooker’s role and has a chance to impress Scotland coaches as he completes a switch from back row.
Ruled out because of injury are: Ollie Atkins (rib), Allan Dell (ankle), Cornell Du Preez (foot), Dougie Fife (nose), Grant Gilchrist (arm), Sean Kennedy (shoulder), Nick McLennan (groin), Matt Scott (shoulder) and Jade Te Rure (arm) while Scotland regulars Ross Ford and Ally Dickinson are rested with Damien Hoyland and Chris Dean on Scotland sevens duty.
Edinburgh: Cuthbert, Brown, Burleigh, Strauss, Visser, Tonks, Hidalgo-Clyne, Sutherland, McInally, Nel. Bresler, Toolis, Coman (c), Denton, Watson. Subs: Cochrane. Shiells, Andress, McKenzie, Grant, Fowler, Heathcote, Beard.
