Granton’s Craig MacGillivray further extended his lead at the top of the Scottish Snooker rankings when he defeated local rival Ross Vallance in the final of the Scottish Open, Main Tour Event 5 at the Locarno Snooker Club last night.
With both players playing at their home club, it was MacGillivray who settled quickest, racing to a 4-0 lead at the interval. Vallance fought back to win the fifth and followed that up with a break of 89 to close the deficit to only two frames. However, MacGillivray won the fifth before a run a 49 put the former professional in control of the sixth, which he won on the pink to secure a 6-2 victory.
Meanwhile, over in China at the Asian Tour Event 4, Bonnyrigg’s Michael Leslie lost out to fellow Scot Alan McManus. Leslie lost the first three frames, before getting back into the match with breaks of 72 and 136, the highest of the tournament so far, to close the gap to only one frame. However, McManus won a close sixth frame to win 4-2.
Musselburgh’s Ross Muir enjoyed a welcome victory as he defeated China’s Long Yun closing out with a break of 68 for a 4-1. Muir will now meet Alex Davies today in the second round.
Scott Donaldson beat Yuan Sijan 4-1 and will play Feng Yu.
