Ross Muir falls in Wuxi Classic opener

Musselburgh’s Ross Muir lost in the first round of the Wuxi Classic Qualifying yesterday, going out 5-1 to England’s Jamie Cope in Gloucester, writes MICHAEL GALLACHER.

Muir fell behind early on, losing the opening three frames as Cope made breaks of 50, 67 and 51 to take control of the match. The Musselburgh teenager then lost the next on the black and although he responded with 84, a run of 51 by Cope in the sixth frame ended the match.

Scott Donaldson qualified for the last 64 after a 5-2 defeat of England’s Stuart Carrington.
