Defending champion Lee Mein remains on course to retain the East of Scotland Snooker title after a close-fought 3-1 victory over Graeme Allan in the Bert Demarco Matchroom at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.

Mein won a tight opening frame before winning the next with two breaks of 40. Although Allan pulled one back, Mein won another close frame to secure victory and a place in the quarter-finals against three-times champion Ross Vallance, who defeated Lee Watt 3-0 with a highest break of 64.

Colin MacAlpine faces Colin Johnson in the next match for the right to play either Craig MacGillivray or Darren Gilbertson in the second quarter-final.
