Lee Mein will be aiming to keep his bid to retain the East of Scotland Snooker title on track when he faces Graeme Allan in the last-16 stage of tournament which gets underway this week in the Bert Demarco Matchroom at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange.
Allan caused the shock of the event last year when he defeated Craig MacGillivary and will be looking to put himself in contention for a shot at the title with another upset. Victory for Mein could set-up a quarter-final clash with three-time East of Scotland Champion Ross Vallance, who must defeat Lee Watt to progress. MacGillivray will be hoping for better luck this year when he plays Darren Gilbertson for a place in the quarter finals. Gilbertson had an excellent victory over Chris Totten, one of the tournament favourites, in the last round. In the bottom half of the draw, 2014 winner Robert Carlisle remains on course to progress to the latter stages but will need to get past two-time champion Stevie Dick. Last season’s runner-up, Derek Dudgeon, faces Falkirk’s Jim Ash.
