The first two names for Theo Pijper’s long-awaited ‘Night of Champions’ Testimonial meeting which will open the Scottish speedway season at Armadale on Friday, March 20 have been confirmed – and both are Danish.
Former Monarch Claus Vissing, who is now with Berwick Bandits, was first to offer his services and Workingon Comets’ new igning Kenneth Hansen has also agreed to compete.
Vissing said: “Theo actually asked me to ride when his meeting was supposed to have been staged at Glasgow last year. That didn’t happen, but I’m pleased to be doing it now. Theo is a nice chap and I enjoyed being his team-mate at Armadale when I was there.”
Vissing added: “It’s a good time to stage the meeting because everyone will be keen to see some speedway after the winter, I’m looking forward to it.”
Pijper’s event will take the form of an individual competition concluding with two semi-finals and a big prize final.
And, with Pijper – a Monarch between 2002-2007 and in 2012 – currently not fixed up with any Premier League club in 2015, this could be the Dutchman’s final appearance of his British career.
