Edinburgh Monarchs will face arch rivals Glasgow Tigers in this season’s Premier League speedway championship Grand Final.

The first leg will take place at Ashfield on Friday night with the decider at Armadale on Saturday evening. Both meetings will start at 7pm.

The Tigers squeezed through their semi-final second leg against Somerset Rebels by two points on aggregate after a dramatic last heat 4-2 yesterday, denying the Oak Tree Arena side a fourth consecutive appearance in the Grand Final.

Monarchs chairman Alex Harkess said: “Those are the dates we had offered Glasgow prior to them getting through and because we finished top of the league before the play-offs we had first choice of dates anyway. And it gives us the chance of hopefully winning the league in front of our own supporters and that is what it’s all about.”

Monarchs only had the option of organising the showdown for this weekend as Sam Masters and Justin Sedgmen fly out for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne a week today Harkess added: “It’s the final all Scottish speedway wanted.”

Monarchs have already beaten Tigers in a major final this season, scooping the League Cup by a big margin last month.
