EDINBURGH MONARCHS today shelved plans to stage their home leg of the Premier League play-off Grand Final at Armadale on Friday because they won’t discover their opponents until Thursday night.
Monarchs chairman Alex Harkess said: “It would not have been right going in to our biggest meeting of the season having discovered who we would be racing against just 24 hours earlier.
“It is only fair that we have the time to publicise our leg of the final correctly and have a proper build-up in keeping with the prestige of the occasion.”
Somerset Rebels need only avoid a heavy defeat at Redcar Bears to qualify to face Monarchs and are hot favourites to do so.
But they have suggested they would like the 25th as well for their home leg, which they are entitled to request after finishing top of the table prior to the play-off programme.
