EDINBURGH MONARCHS speedway ace Sam Masters has been given a huge boost ahead of tonight’s League Cup Final first-leg tie against Glasgow Tigers at Armadale after being named as the wild card entrant for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on October 24.

Masters said: “I have always followed the GPs, it’s as far as you can get in our sport. I have already beaten some of the guys who will be there. I’m not up to their standard all the time but I don’t think I’ll be far off the pace. However, I have got important meetings coming up for Edinburgh first and I can’t get wrapped up in cotton wool just to keep me fit for the GP.”

Reserves for the Grand Prix are Justin Sedgmen and Max Fricke, ensuring three of Monarchs’ 2014 treble-winning squad will be in the meeting.
