On Saturday, at the Festival Theatre, it’s the turn of West Lothian’s Astro Gymnastics to showcase their amazing high energy fusion of choreography, acrobatics and tumbling in Astronomical.

As display gymnastics, to give the discipline its proper title, continues to grow, the Livingston-based community group now boasts two award-winning troupes - Astro Eden and Astro Republic.

Each of their five to eight minute long routines is choreographed to music and demonstrates a variety of dance sequences, individual skills, tumbles and group balances.

In the spotlight on Saturday Astro Eden, the club’s senior troupe, and Astro Republic, aged between eight and 16, will perform throughout - both won Gold at the Disneyland Paris Gymnastique Magique in 2016.

A highlight of the year for all involved, Fiona Fyfe, Head of Performance, says, “Astro Gymnastics has been operating as a community gymnastics club for more than 22 years.

“Every year we showcase the talents of all our members from Pre-School, Recreational, Freestyle, Competitive and Display.

“In 2018 we are celebrating our biggest show to date with more than 400 gymnasts spread across two shows.

“Astro will perform their own interpretation from the film Rio in Part 2, whilst in Part 1 we will showcase a variety of themes demonstrating a range of acrobatics, tumble and dance.

“We cannot wait to see the gymnasts performing on the Festival Theatre stage.”

So forget Diversity, it’s time to meet one of Edinburgh and Lothian’s finest acrobatic dance troupes.
