JK Rowling backs Remain in EU membership vote

Harry Potter author JK Rowling has confirmed she is backing the campaign to keep Britain in the European Union.

With only days to go before the referendum vote on EU membership, the Edinburgh-based writer posted a series of tweets celebrating its role in supporting peace and unity.

She tweeted: “I don’t want to leave a union that has brought more peace and stability to the region.”

Ms Rowling, who has seven million Twitter followers, later referred to the threat of Scotland holding a second independence referendum if the UK voted to leave the EU on June 23.

“Just so we are all clear, this may well decide the fate of two unions, not one,” she said.
