Pick of the club nights

EDINBURGH TECHNO GATHERING IIPotterrow, tomorrow, 10pm-3am, £7, 0131-650 2656

THE Edinburgh Techno Gathering (ETG) returns tomorrow with some thundering beats guaranteed to pound the walls of Bristo Square and fire up the crowd at Potterrow.

The first ETG offered clubbers no less than seven club nights under one roof. This time the clublist has been extended to include DJs from the premiere techno clubs - Pulse, Dogma, Ani MAl Hospital, Compakt, Synthetic, Telefunken, Wasabi Disco and Access.

However, it’s not all about old faces, as young blood Sean Laird joins the fray. After winning the Techno Gathering DJ competition he’ll perform live to show off his deck skills and raise the beat.

Organiser Darrell Harding explains, “We held the DJ competition for bedroom jocks, giving them the chance to play a DJ set live to a room rammed full of clubbers. We had loads of entries but Sean Laird’s blinding set was brilliant, he was the definite winner.”

He adds, “With so many nights throughout the city, ETG gives people the chance to sample a variety of club nights all at once.

“We decided to work together to promote cutting edge music and have a great time doing it. It’s too easy to get sucked into reality TV pop shows where the music’s exactly the same, year in year out. It’s even written by the same guy, what’s the fun in that?”

If you’ve had enough of the same old same old, perhaps furious beats and a ripping good time will flip your switch or tickle your fancy - speaking of which there’s no Louie Walsh. For that alone my ticket’s booked.
