Revived classic returns

First staged in 1980, Scottish Opera’s production of Puccini’s masterpiece is revived by Jonathan Cocker at the Festival Theatre.

Updated from the Napoleonic times, in which it was originally set, to the shadows of Mussolini’s brutal Fascist regime in 1940s Rome, the production will be conducted by the company’s music director Francesco Corti.

Corti says, “Tosca is pure Puccini. The score goes from tenderness to huge tension – it is big and dramatic with so much passion and absolutely drives the action on stage. It is little wonder it is still so popular.”
