Generations of children have passed through the doors of the Bonnyrigg After School Club, which has been operating in the town for 30 years.

Now its popular nursery section – Polton Green Nursery – is expanding its services to meet demand in the area, and has a number of full-day spaces available for families in the area.

The spaces – for sessions which run from 9am to 3pm – are fully funded by the government, subject to eligibility, and cater for children from two to five years, helping begin their learning journey in the heart of a thriving community and getting them ready for school.

Varied learning

As well as providing a warm, friendly learning environment, the Polton Green Nursery – which meets in the old bowling club – is well regarded in the community, offering a nurturing ground for little minds.

The premises are relatively small indoors, limiting numbers to just 29 children, which is seen as a positive, making it a world away from some very large class sizes in schools or private providers.

Staff say they are able to focus on each child as an individual, and provide tailored education to suit.

Outdoors, they have masses of space for play and learning, including a giant polytunnel which is opening up many new projects for little learners.

Business development manager Sam Elliott is keen to hear form local families looking for a nursery space: “As an organisation, we are very well-known in the area but we are expanding to meet local demand, and this means we have a number of spaces available now. We have charitable status and that means we offer affordable childcare. Many of the children will be fully entitled to paid childcare too, making it accessible to all.”

Job vacancies

They also have a number of vacancies for childcare workers, ideally qualified and experienced in the sector, but with full training available, offering a real career development opportunity for someone wanting to work with young people.
