White has been called the “enfant terrible” of British cuisine and the “Godfather” of modern cooking.

One of the youngest chefs ever to be awarded three Michelin stars, he has also trained many leading figures in the international food scene, including Gordon Ramsay, Curtis Stone and Shannon Bennett.

He said of his new restaurant: “We’re delighted to now be open in Edinburgh.

“The restaurant occupies such a great location in the heart of the city centre and within a stunning hotel.

“I love the Scottish people. You can always count on them to tell you exactly what they like and what they want.

“It is this exact approach I take with the steakhouse concept.”

The opening of White’s steakhouse marks the latest addition to Edinburgh’s flourishing dining-out sector.

London-based Carluccio’s and Wahaca – a Mexican-themed chain set up by MasterChef winner Thomasina Miers – are among other firms who have announced plans to open in the city.

White said his new restaurant would focus on simplicity and top-quality ingredients.

“I will always choose simple traditional cooking over fancy concoctions where you’re not quite sure what the food is
supposed to be,” he said. “The steakhouse is all about classic dishes, hearty portions and all at a good price.”

The restaurant is situated on the first floor of the Hilton Carlton and offers diners a traditional steakhouse menu featuring a range of White’s favourite dishes.

Claire Livingston, general manager at the hotel, welcomed the launch and said: “It’s incredibly exciting to bring Marco Pierre White to Edinburgh as part of our hotel.

“It’s adding something different to the city centre dining scene to attract local restaurant-goers. The restaurant will also complement our stunning new hotel offering which is set to prove very popular with guests.”

The steakhouse has opened as part of a franchise agreement between White’s Black and White Hospitality company and the Hilton Edinburgh Carlton.

The firm’s bosses also said the new restaurant would aim to offer an “aspiring, glamorous setting complemented by an extensive food and drinks menu to cater for a variety of budgets”.
