Steam trains return to Edinburgh for 2016

Steam trains are to return to Edinburgh this summer with trains operating on the Borders Railway.

ScotRail’s programme of steam train day trips will be running every weekend in August and September leaving from Edinburgh Waverley. Passengers can travel on a morning or evening trip to the Scottish Borders every Sunday, or be the first to travel by steam along the beautiful Fife and Forth Valley Circular in 85 years on Saturday 13 and August 20.

The vintage carriages have been refurbished and passengers can choose from a standard seating or the luxurious First Class gourmet dining experience.

The Fife and the Forth Valley Circular route takes approximately five hours, travelling non-stop across the Forth Rail Bridge to the Kingdom of Fife, before heading West to Stirling Castle and returning to Edinburgh.

The Borders Railway departs every Sunday in August aqnd September will take just under five hours and the service will also allow passengers to get off the train to explore the attractions and sites of the Scottish Borders.
