Young serial entrepreneur launches business to help remote workers

A serial entrepreneur aged just 23 who already has interests in sectors as diverse as IT and street food has launched another business – aimed at helping remote workers.

Chris Thomas has announced the debut of his third business, Remote Easy, which says it provides remote working teams with everything they need to “communicate smarter and interact better” – from pioneering technology to ergonomically designed furniture.

The entrepreneur was 21 when he was appointed chief executive of Livingston-based IT, print, and telecoms provider Incovo – which last year revealed that it was closing its office after a move to remote working. By the age of 22 he had been shortlisted for the Institute of Directors’ UK Young Director of the Year award, and won the Business Growth Award at the West Lothian Business Awards.

He is also the owner of street-food venue Ozen, which recently opened in Edinburgh, and he is also a DJ, performing regularly in the Scottish capital, and a presenter on podcast series The Chris & Ryan Show.

Remote Easy is aiming to ensure employees are properly equipped for remote working over the long term. “This means they need to have a suitable set-up – such as a well-designed desk and chair, storage solutions, [information and communications technology] equipment, up-to-the-minute IT packages, and anti-virus software.”

The firm says it is a one-stop shop alternative to firms having to deal with multiple suppliers. “In fact, Remote Easy is one of the only providers in Scotland that can offer businesses of any size the complete package. [We] can deliver, install, maintain, and manage everything a team needs to work remotely, enabling businesses to scale back – or even completely remove the need for an office,” it said.

Mr Thomas said: “Remote working has so many benefits, but in order to make the switch from office to home working as smooth and seamless as possible, certain things need to be in place. Judging by the experience of many businesses, it’s not an easy task to kit out a remote team with all the right furniture, equipment, and software if multiple suppliers are involved, so I decided to take the lead, streamline the process, and help make the switch to remote working as slick as possible by providing everything businesses could possibly need.”
