Capital’s crew leads in yacht race

the Capital’s entry in the Clipper Round the World yacht race is leading for the first time since the challenge began last July.

Edinburgh Inspiring Capital is ahead of the pack as it sails from Panama in central America to New York on race 11 of the year-long event.

The team emerged in first place after 24 hours of “stealth mode”, where its location was hidden from other competitors – a tactic available to each crew once during each race segment.

Skipper Flavio Zamboni said: “The crew is ecstatic and morale is higher than ever. There are still over 800 miles to go to the finish line in New York. The race is still very long and the competition will be tougher than ever. Because of the tropical depression developing off the coast of the US, the weather hasn’t settled yet and routing can still play a huge difference.

“Outplaying the other teams will be hard, but we’re up for the challenge.”
