Coronavirus in Scotland: Further 24 deaths as 1,101 new Covid cases reported in latest daily figures

A further 24 people have died in Scotland after testing positive for coronavirus according to the latest daily figures, with 1,101 new cases reported.

Of these new cases reported on Saturday, 374 are in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board area, with 317 in Lanarkshire, 121 in Lothian and 84 in Ayrshire and Arran. The remaining cases are spread across eight other health authorities.

A total of 1,149 people were in hospital in Scotland on Friday with recently confirmed Covid-19 and 80 patients were in intensive care.

At its peak, there were more than 1,500 patients with Covid being treated across the country - on April 20 - but the numbers have been rising again steadily in recent weeks.

But graphs published daily by Public Health Scotland show that the infection rates are flattening in Scotland.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon suggested earlier today that tough restrictions introduced in Scotland in late September have started to slow the rate of increase.
