DEVASTATED organisers of this year's Pride Edinburgh have cancelled the festival because of coronavirus fears.

The June 13 celebrations were set to mark the 25th anniversary of the event with a host of star acts and a parade.

But the plug was pulled after latest health advice put the period of self-isolation for those most at risk from Covid-19 at 12 weeks, beyond the event date.

"It is with heavy hearts that through this letter we announce that Pride Edinburgh 2020 is cancelled," reads a post on its Facebook page. "This decision was not taken light."

Organisers said the outbreak meant they could no-longer guarantee the safety of party-goers but vowed to mark their silver anniversary in 2021.

"This is not a goodbye letter but rather a 'see you later'," they added.
