Coronavirus in Scotland: Three new deaths as Lothians see 166 new confirmed cases in 24 hours

Three new deaths have been reported in Scotland as cases in the Lothians jumped by 166 in a day.

In total, Scotland has seen a rise of 668 cases in the last 24 hours of which 244 were confirmed in Greater Glasgow and Clyde and 123 in Lanarkshire.

The others were reported from health boards across the country.

During her daily briefing, Nicola Sturgeon confirmed 154 people are currently being treated in hospital with the virus, 15 more than were reported yesterday, and 17 patients are in intensive care.

Nicola Sturgeon confirmed the R number – the average number of secondary infections produced by a single infected person – is possible as high as 1.7 at the moment.
