Covid Scotland: Midlothian records highest number of cases in Scotland this week as country moves into level zero while City of Edinburgh, East Lothian and West Lothian make top 12 worst hit areas

As the country moved into level zero on Monday, the latest figures published by the Scottish Government reveal that Midlothian, East Lothian and the City of Edinburgh recorded some of the highest rates of Covid-19 in Scotland this week.

The whole of Scotland moved to the lowest level of its five-tier system on Monday.

Data released by the Scottish Government breaks down the number of positive Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people, according to council area.

Midlothian is the worst hit area in Scotland this week having recorded 435 new cases between July 10 and July 16. This was a rate of 470.5 cases per 100,000 people.

Midlothian remains the highest on the table of worst hit covid areas in the whole of Scotland with Dundee coming in second.

Edinburgh follows Dundee City at number three while East Lothian is the fourth worst hit area in Scotland this week.

West Lothian has also made it into the worst hit areas at number twelve.

Here are the 12 areas in Scotland with the most new coronavirus cases between July 10 and July 16.

Dundee City recorded 586 new cases over the last seven days, this was a rate of 392.4 cases per 100,000 people.

City of Edinburgh recorded 353.0 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people. This was a total of 1,853 new cases.
East Lothian is at number four on the list having recorded a rate of 344.6 cases per 100,000 people in the last week. This was 369 cases in total.
Renfrewshire recorded 586 cases between July 10 and 16 with a seven-day rate of 327.2 per 100,000 in this period.
This council area recorded 1,109 new cases of covid with a rate of 324.9 per 100,00 population.
Angus recorded 367 new cases of coronavirus over the last seven days. This was a rate of 315.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Inverclyde is next having recorded 241 cases between July 10 and July 16. This was a rate of 309.8 cases per 100,000 people.
Over the last week in Glasgow City there were 303.6 positive cases of coronavirus per 100,000 people. In total, 1,922 positive cases were recorded in this area.
East Renfrewshire recorded 290 cases of coronavirus between July 10 and July 16. This was a rate of 303.6 cases per 100,000 people.
Fife recorded 1,110 case of coronavirus between July 10 and July 16. This was a rate of 297.1 cases per 100,000 people.
505 cases have been recorded in West Lothian in the past week with a case rate of 275.8 per 100,000 population.
