First Minister Nicola Sturgeon addresses students: “I’m so sorry Covid is making this special time of your lives so tough.”

Students have been asked to not attend pubs or social events over the weekend after a spate of outbreaks across Scotland.

Nicola Sturgeon has taken to social media with a message for all students after several breakouts at University have left hundreds self isolating.

The First Minister tweeted: “To all students - I’m so sorry COVID is making this special time of your lives so tough. But it won’t be forever and the more we get the virus back under control now, the sooner you’ll get a bit of normality back. So, please do what’s being asked of you

“Please self isolate if advised, follow rules on socialising & household mixing, remember FACTS.

“Uni’s have a big responsibility to look out for your welfare - especially if you are isolating - and I know they take that seriously. Thank you.”

She also added that the advice that was given to students today to stay away from pubs and hospitality venues is applicable just for this weekend in an effort to stop the current outbreaks spreading.

Students at all Scottish Universities have been told today that their current residence, whether halls or student flat, classes as their household, and they will be unable to go back to their parents homes.

They have also been asked to avoid socialising with people outside of their households.
