Nicola Sturgeon: 60 new Covid-19 deaths as toll reaches 1,475

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed the latest Covid-19 figures in Scotland.

60 more people have died in Scotland after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the death toll in Scotland by this measure to 1,475, according to First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

At her daily press briefing today, Ms Sturgeon also confirmed that 11,353 people had now tested positive for the virus - an increase of 319.

She said 1,748 of those were receiving treatment in hospital – a increase of 21.

109 people are in intensive care across Scotland – five fewer than the figure 24 hours ago.

Yesterday, National Records of Scotland released its weekly records of people whose deaths were linked to Covid-19, even if they were not tested for the disease.

By this NRS measure, statistics show that, up to April 26, coronavirus had killed 2,272 people in Scotland – an increase of 656.

The records show that 52 per cent of deaths recorded by NRS occurred in Scottish hospitals, 39 per cent in care homes, and nine per cent at people’s homes.

These weekly NRS results are thought to give a much more accurate picture of the toll of Covid-19 in Scotland that the daily totals that the Scottish government is currently able to produce.
