Nicola Sturgeon: 9 new deaths from coronavirus as Scotland total hits 575

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has released the latest Covid-19 figures for Scotland.

Speaking at a live press conference in St Andrew’s House in Edinburgh, Ms Sturgeon said nine more people had died from the disease since Sunday.

It brings the total number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Scotland to 575.

She said 6,067 people have now tested positive for the virus in Scotland, up by 155 from 5,912 the day before.

Ms Sturgeon cautioned however that some health boards have not reported positive case figures yet, and that death figures are often lower after the weekend.

There are 211 people in intensive care with coronavirus or coronavirus symptoms, a decrease of 10 on Sunday, she added.

And 1,797 people are in hospital with confirmed or suspected Covid-19.
