A letter to parents and carers from Alison McCallum, NHS Lothian director of public health and health policy, said: "Over the past week there has been a small number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 within the Juniper Green Primary School community.

"Children who have been in direct contact with the confirmed cases have been contacted and will be staying at home for 14 days.

"The school remains open and if your child has not been contacted then they should continue to attend school if they remain well."

Parents around the county were contacted this week after children at 11 schools returned positive tests.

West Lothian Council confirmed that the numbers of positive cases are very small.

Rules on disclosers say that if the number is less than five cases at any specific school then the number remains confidential.

West Lothian Council say that there are fewer than five in each school.

The council also say “plans are already in place” after Nicola Sturgeon ruled out closing schools for the time being.
