Don Pujdak from Signature Barber Shop stated: “The graffiti is an expression of gratitude to our NHS heroes.

“These incredible people stand on the front line of the nation's battle against coronavirus.

“Frontline staff, surgeons, nurses, physios, midwives, pharmacists, paramedics, GPs and everyone else who works for the NHS.

“They have all been working very hard to make sure that all the patients are looked after.

“Thank you NHS.”

The sign follows other artistic expressions including the Carrick Knowe man Andrew Aitken painted his door in the colours of the NHS with rainbow colours around frames and a giant hopscotch game chalked on the ground in Bruntsfield that has almost 1,400 squares and reaches 400m.

A beach in Musselburgh has also become the scene of artwork with rainbows and messages including the words ‘NHS’ and ‘Stay Zen’ written out in stones and shells with Susan Dalgety, who has added to the work, saying: “The installation has built up over the last few weeks, since lockdown.”
