Two elderly residents die in same Edinburgh care home due to coronavirus

Two residents in an Edinburgh care home have died due to coronavirus as the devastation caused by the disease continues to spread through care homes.

The residents lived at the Letham Park Care Home on Ferry Road, and other patients are understood to by symptomatic.

One patient has been tested for the virus and has tested positive, The Scottish Sun reported.

A spokesman for the care home, operated by Renaissance Care, said the two resident who have died were diagnosed with COVID-19 prior to passing away.

She said: “Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with their loved ones during what is a very challenging and stressful time for everyone involved in the care home sector.

“Our staff are working incredibly hard to deliver the highest possible quality of care to all residents, while following strict infection control procedures to help minimise the spread of the virus.

“We are rigorously following Government and Health Protection Scotland guidance within all our homes, each of which is equipped with the recommended PPE.”

The news came after nine patients died in Tranent Care Home over a period of 10 days due to the virus.
