Pop-up shop to offer mental health advice

a MENTAL health “pop-up shop” is being opened in Rose Street today by Still Game star Sanjeev Kohli.

The shop at 121 Rose Street will be open today and tomorrow, handing out a pocket-sized information pack called Know Where to Go: Your Guide, which helps people find help for mental health problems.

The shop’s opening marks the launch of a new campaign from the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

Chief executive Billy Watson said: “Mental health problems have an enormous impact on our society, so it is alarming that so many people in Scotland simply don’t know where to get help.

People can and do recover from mental health problems, but the longer a person waits to get the help they need, the greater the cost to them and to society. That’s why we are launching Know Where to Go.

“We want to educate people about their rights to fair and effective treatment and target specific groups within society that face specific barriers to getting help.

“SAMH will work with GPs, the NHS and local authorities to ensure information is available to everyone who needs it.”

For more information see www.samh.org.uk. Help is also available from SAMH 2-4pm Monday to Friday on 0800 917 34 66 or Breathing Space Scotland on 0800 83 85 87.
