Recycle your inhalers at pharmacies

asthma inhalers can now be recycled at Co-operative Pharmacies in the Capital.

The chain has adopted the Complete the Cycle scheme run by GlaxoSmithKline to cut the environmental impact of disposing of the inhalers, which contain a propellant which acts as a greenhouse gas when released into the atmosphere.

Patients who visit participating stores to receive an inhaler will be told that they can return it to the shop when they collect their repeat prescription.

One of those participating is Kaye Greig, pharmacist at the Co-operative Pharmacy in Craigentinny Road.

She said: “I’m delighted to be able to offer this simple yet effective service and believe together we can make an important difference to our environment. As a responsible and ethical business it is important to take a lead in sustainable initiatives like these.”
