Respite home raises £30,000 in week-long fundraising bonanza

An East Lothian charity has raised £30,000 in just seven days.

Leuchie House, an independent organisation that provides high-quality respite breaks for individuals and their families
who are affected by long-term degenerative conditions with complex care needs, has received donations from three Lothian companies as well as its own Christmas fair.

Part of the huge donation was raised by local businessman Tommy Dale at his recent Bass Rock Supper.

He handed over £20,400, while Charles River Laboratories in Tranent donated £5000 and £2805 came from staff at the Edinburgh branch of John Lewis – from money that’s been raised from the 5p carrier bag charge.

Chief executive Mairi O’Keefe said: “We are overjoyed by the support we’ve received in the past seven days. The generosity of local businesses and the efforts their staff go to in support of Leuchie never ceases to amaze us. They all make a huge difference to the work we do at Leuchie.”
