Firefighters at the Penicuik fire station posted a moving tribute video online of them standing in silence to the song ‘You'll Never Walk Alone’ followed by a clap in his memory.

Crew member Ricky McDonald from Penicuik said: “Paying our respect to fire fighter Kane McGinley. A truly amazing friend and colleague, from all at Penicuik fire station and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service family, you will be hugely missed. Rest in peace brother."

Friend Scott Knight posted: “Still can’t believe I’m writing this but honestly can’t believe what has happened to one of the best boys I have ever met.

“You were the heart and soul of everyone.

“Honestly words cannot describe how much you will be missed Kano.

“Genuinely want to thank you for the impact you made to my life. I’m going to miss you every day and I will never stop thinking about you and the memories we had together. Rest in piece my boy. Love you always.”

A gofundme page has been set up to create a memorial in his name.

It has raised more than double its target reaching more than £10,000.

In a statement online it says: “We would like to raise money to create a memorial in memory of Kane. We know how much he was adored by everyone that knew him or crossed paths with him and we would like to create a peaceful space that everyone can go to and share memories and thoughts with each other.”
