Central Taxis Edin received a message from a nurse called Monika asking them to identity a driver who helped her when she found herself running late for work on Friday morning.

The nurse, who works at Western General Hospital in Edinburgh, missed her bus and attempted to walk to work.

But being a typical winter’s day, she said she nearly fell over in the icy conditions.

It was at the moment when a taxi driver, who has now been identified as John Stevenson, offered to drive Monika to work free of charge.

Mr Stevenson has since been hailed as a hero by both Monika and the company he works for after making the kind gesture to the key worker.

Central Taxis Edin shared Monika’s message on Twitter which read: “Do you recognise this lovely driver? I am a staff nurse at the Western General Hospital.

"I missed my bus this morning so I decided to walk to work but it was so frosty I almost fell! This gentlemen stopped and gave me a lift and refused money. What a star and wonderful person. Thank you.”

The taxi company added: “Driver John Stevenson also deserves a special shout out. Earlier today we received this lovely message from a lady called Monika.

“Our driver’s always strive to go above and beyond and even more so in the current climate.”
